How many sheets of drywall do I need?
Divide the total area to cover by the coverage of one sheet (a 4×8 sheet covers 32 sq ft), then add about 10% for waste and cuts.
Counting drywall sheets
Divide the total wall and ceiling area by the coverage of one sheet — a 4×8 sheet covers 32 sq ft — then add about 10% for cuts and waste. Longer 4×12 sheets reduce seams on big walls but are heavier to handle.
Don't forget the finishing
Plan on roughly one 5-gallon bucket of joint compound and about 400 ft of tape per 1,000 sq ft of drywall, plus screws every 12–16 inches. Those finishing materials are easy to underestimate.
How to use this calculator
