How many pavers do I need?

Divide the area by the coverage of one paver, then add 10% for cuts and breakage.

Measuring a paver patio

Find the area you're paving in square feet, then divide by the coverage of one paver to get the count. Add 10% for straight patterns and up to 15% for herringbone or diagonal layouts, which produce more cut pieces.

Base and sand

Under pavers you'll also need a compacted gravel base (4–6 inches for patios) and about a 1-inch layer of bedding sand. Use the gravel and sand calculators to estimate those layers too.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Measure the area to pave in square feet.
